Profile: Ifedayo Orimoloye, Access Bank’s New Risk Chief

Ifedayo Olaniyi Orimoloye

Ifedayo Olaniyi Orimoloye  has been appointed Executive Director, Risk Management of Access Bank Plc, effective September 21, 2026, following approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

A veteran banking and risk-management executive with more than 25 years of experience across financial institutions in Africa, Europe and the United States, Orimoloye most recently served as Group Chief Risk Officer of the African Development Bank (AfDB), where he was responsible for risk oversight covering a portfolio exceeding $40 billion. During his tenure, he supported the bank’s risk framework and its continued AAA credit ratings from Moody’s, S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings.

At the AfDB, he was also involved in major capital-market and securitisation transactions. Access Bank says these included a $5.4 billion synthetic securitisation, a $750 million hybrid capital issuance and a $400 million permanent capital vehicle, including transactions connected with expanding renewable-energy access in Africa.

Rich Banking Sector Experience

Before joining the AfDB, Orimoloye was Chief Risk Officer at Sterling Bank Plc, where he led risk-transformation initiatives, implemented Basel II/III frameworks and restructured $800 million in distressed credit exposures. Access Bank says the restructuring generated a $119 million profit impact.

Earlier in his career, he served as Group Chief Risk Officer at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), where he oversaw risk across a $24 billion portfolio spanning 36 countries. He was also involved in a $1.2 billion capital raise following a credit-rating upgrade.His international banking career includes senior positions at Wells Fargo, HSBC and Citigroup. According to Access Bank, he managed risk exposures exceeding $200 billion, developed quantitative risk frameworks and worked on balance-sheet optimisation. He began his banking career at Wachovia Bank in 1995 in corporate finance.

Education

Orimoloye holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Finance and an MBA in Finance from California State University, Hayward.

New Responsibilities at Access Bank

His appointment as Executive Director, Risk Management gives him responsibility for a core function of Access Bank as the institution operates across multiple markets. Access Bank says his expertise covers enterprise risk management, capital optimisation, credit governance, regulatory compliance and strategic transformation.

He also sits on Access Bank’s Board Credit Committee, Board Digital and Information Technology Committee, Board Risk Management Committee and Board Technical Committee on Retail Expansion.
