Nestoil is recruiting an Accounting and Finance Officer to join its team in Warri, Delta State. The position is suitable for accounting professionals and early-career candidates with a strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting standards and general finance operations.
The successful candidate will support the Finance and Accounts Department by accurately recording business transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing reconciliations and supporting month-end financial reporting.
About the Nestoil Accounting and Finance Officer Role
The Accounting and Finance Officer will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records in the company’s ERP system and ensuring transactions are processed in line with applicable accounting standards, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and generally accepted accounting principles.
The role also involves statutory deductions, fixed asset records, financial reconciliations and proper management of supporting accounting documents.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Recording and posting business transactions accurately and on time in the general ledger and ERP system.
- Processing transactions relating to assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, expenses, receivables, inventory and other financial accounts.
- Receiving vendor invoices and conducting three-way matching in the ERP system before payment processing.
- Preparing monthly vendor reconciliation statements and resolving outstanding reconciling items.
- Recording customer invoices and preparing monthly accounts receivable reconciliation statements.
- Supporting month-end accounting closure activities.
- Posting depreciation and amortization for relevant assets and investments.
- Recording accruals for approved expenses where supplier invoices have not yet been received.
- Supporting loan interest amortization and reconciliation of loans and related-party balances.
- Preparing bank reconciliation statements and resolving discrepancies.
- Preparing intercompany reconciliation statements with relevant Strategic Business Units.
- Ensuring assets and liabilities recorded in the general ledger are supported by appropriate schedules and documentation.
- Preparing ageing analysis reports for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date Fixed Assets Register.
- Supporting physical verification of property, plant and equipment and inventory.
- Monitoring staff cash advances and corporate debit card transactions to ensure timely retirement.
- Computing and recognizing applicable statutory deductions, including VAT, WHT, LCD and NIMSA-related obligations as applicable.
- Preparing schedules for the timely remittance of statutory deductions.
- Following up on WHT credit notes and payment receipts.
- Reconciling statutory deduction general ledger accounts.
- Maintaining an organized system for storing and retrieving supporting transaction documents.
- Performing other finance and accounting duties assigned by departmental leadership.
Nestoil Accounting and Finance Officer Requirements
Candidates applying for the position should have a B.Sc. or HND in Accounting.
Applicants should also meet the following requirements:
- Student membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
- Between 0 and 4 years of experience in an accounting or finance function.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Understanding of accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
- Ability to handle complex matching and reconciliation processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when preparing and managing financial data.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong time-management and stress-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
