Ukraine has struck two oil refineries in Russia, President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed in a social media post stating that Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck the Slavneft-Yanos refinery in Yaroslavl and the Bashneft-Novoil refinery in Bashkortostan.
Yaroslavl is home to one of the largest oil refineries in Russia as the Slavneft-Yanos refinery is based in the city of Yaroslavl, hundreds of miles from the border with Ukraine.
The refinery built in 1961 is one of the top five largest refineries in Russia, and has been attacked by Ukraine before throughout the conflict. Its website claims that it “makes about 15 million tonnes of crude oil annually”.
Four people were injured by shrapnel in the attack, according to regional governor Mikhail Evraev while nobody was killed in the attack, but falling debris damaged an oil refinery’s storage tanks. Emergency services are working to put out the fire,
Meanwhile, in the port of Odesa, one person has died and three others injured in a Russian attack on a ship carrying Ukrainian wheat, according to the local governor
Ukraine has also been sharing details of Russian attacks – in Kharkiv, officials reported two deaths following a Russian strike on a train station, while a separate attack on Balakliya killed three and injured several more, the country’s state emergency service said.
