The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has appointed Prof. Peter Olamakinde Olapegba as the institution’s 14th Vice-Chancellor following a competitive selection process involving eight candidates.

The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Adebisi Akande, shortly after the council approved the recommendation of the Joint Council-Senate Selection Board.

Background in Academia

Professor Peter Olapegba is a Professor of Social/Health Psychology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Psychology, Master of Science in Social/Personality Psychology and PhD in Social Psychology, he has published extensively in peer-review journals in addition to chapters in books and conference proceedings.

Prof. Olapegba was a Visiting Lecturer to Adekunle Ajasin University, Nigeria, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the North-West University (Mfg. Campus), Mmabatho, South Africa.

He is a recipient of the ICP/Change Fellowship Research Grant (2011) – Jacobson Foundation, Canada, and University of Ibadan Senate Research Grant and a Fellow of the Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA) and Member, America Psychological Association (APA), International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) among others.

He sits on the Editorial Board of a number of academic journals within and outside Africa and is an external Examiner to the University of Fort Hare, South Africa, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, University of Lagos, Nigeria etc.

Administrative Experience

Prof. Peter Olapegba has previously served as Sub Dean (Postgrad.), Member of Senate, Dean, Faculty of the Social sciences, Director, Office of Alumni Relations, and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), all at the University of Ibadan.
