The Chinese government has dispatched a specialized medical expert team to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to support efforts to contain the ongoing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus.
The team departed Beijing in the early hours of Tuesday and is expected to work alongside local health authorities and international partners on the front lines of the response.
In addition to sending medical experts, China has provided emergency humanitarian assistance to the DRC as part of its efforts to help curb the spread of the disease and strengthen healthcare capacity in affected areas.
According to Chinese authorities, the assistance reflects the country’s commitment to supporting African nations during public health emergencies. China said it would continue to provide assistance within its capabilities while adapting its response to the evolving Ebola situation and the needs of affected countries.
China highlighted its long-standing involvement in Ebola response efforts across Africa, noting that it had previously dispatched medical teams and expert groups during major outbreaks in 2014, 2015 and 2018.
The Chinese government emphasized that its relationship with African nations has been built on decades of cooperation and mutual support. Over the more than 70 years of diplomatic relations between China and African countries, both sides have worked together in areas including healthcare, infrastructure, trade and emergency response.
Chinese officials described the Chinese and African peoples as close partners who have consistently supported one another through challenges and crises.
The deployment comes as health authorities work to contain the latest Ebola outbreak in the DRC, with international health agencies closely monitoring developments and coordinating response efforts.
China expressed confidence that, through collective action and international cooperation, African nations would overcome the outbreak and protect public health across the region.
