The government of Togo has announced a major policy shift removing visa requirements for citizens of all African countries travelling into the country for short visits.
According to an official statement from the country’s Ministry of Security, nationals of African states holding valid passports can now enter Togo without a visa for stays of up to 30 days.
The announcement, shared via the ministry’s official communication channels, is part of broader efforts by the Togolese government to strengthen African unity, ease cross-border movement, and promote economic cooperation across the continent.

New entry conditions still apply
While the visa requirement has been lifted, authorities clarified that travellers must still complete a mandatory online travel declaration at least 24 hours before arrival. Upon completion, visitors will receive a travel clearance slip required for entry.
Officials explained that the policy is designed to balance open borders with basic security and immigration tracking measures.
Push for African integration and mobility
The government described the reform as a step toward positioning Togo as a more open hub for mobility, tourism, investment, and regional cooperation.
Authorities also emphasized that the initiative reflects a long-term commitment to African integration, aligning with similar visa-free or visa-on-arrival policies introduced by other African countries in recent years.
Part of a growing continental trend
Togo now joins a growing list of African nations easing travel restrictions for fellow Africans as part of efforts to boost intra-African trade and tourism.
Countries such as Rwanda have also introduced similar policies, and reciprocal arrangements are gradually emerging across the continent, including visa exemption frameworks between some West African states.
Key details of the policy
- Visa-free entry for all African nationals
- Maximum stay: 30 days
- Valid national passport required
- Mandatory travel declaration before arrival
- Applies to short-term visits only
