Who Is Joseph Tegbe: Tinubu’s Nominee to Lead Nigeria’s Power Sector?

Joseph Tegbe, the current Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, has been nominated as Nigeria’s minister of power to replace Bayo Adelabu, who resigned last week.

Joseph Tegbe also currently serves as Chairman of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee.

Career Built on Advisory Leadership

Joseph Tegbe’s career spans more than three decades, marked by extensive experience in institutional transformation, public sector reform, and large-scale project execution.

He previously served as Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Nigeria, where he led high-impact consulting engagements across government and private sector institutions.

Before that, he held multiple senior leadership roles within KPMG, including Partner and Head of Technology Advisory and Markets, as well as Partner and Head of IT Consulting for West Africa. In these roles, he spearheaded strategies for the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) sector and advised on policy frameworks shaping regional markets.

 

Earlier in his career, Joseph built a strong consulting foundation at Arthur Andersen, where he rose through the ranks from accountant and tax consultant to Partner in the Business Consulting Group.

Public Sector Influence and Policy Engagement

Joseph’s expertise extends deeply into Nigeria’s public policy ecosystem. He is an active contributor to the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, where he advises on infrastructure and human capital development. His work has focused on shaping reforms to modernize Nigeria’s utilities, transport systems, and institutional frameworks.

Over the years, he has led ERP implementations and finance transformation projects for major organizations across Nigeria and Ghana, including engagements with Shell Petroleum Development Company and Ghana Airways.

His early career also included engineering work at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, providing him with operational insight into the energy sector.

Academic and Executive Training

Joseph holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University. He later earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Birmingham and completed executive programmes at top global institutions including Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Business School, and INSEAD.

He also holds an MBA from the SWISS International Management Academy and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was awarded an honorary PhD in Accounting.

He would be expected to take the power ministry to greater heights and improve Nigeria’s current power situation.
