Iran confirmed on Monday that Revolutionary Guards commander Alireza Tangsiri had been killed, days after Israel said it targeted him in an air strike.
A statement carried by the Guards’ Sepah News website said Tangsiri “succumbed to severe injuries” from the attack.
He died in an attack allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel in the strategic port city, a key hub for Iran’s naval operations near the Strait of Hormuz.

Tangsiri had been overseeing efforts related to the potential closure of the critical maritime chokepoint, through which a significant portion of global oil shipments passes.
A statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, read on state television and reported by IRNA and Sepah News, said Tangsiri “joined the ranks of Allah due to the severity of his injuries.”
It added that he had “succumbed to severe injuries” sustained in the attack.
The statement praised Tangsiri’s role, particularly in efforts linked to Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz.
“Every fighter is a Tangsiri, and we will see what surprises they will bring in the days and months ahead,” it said.
The confirmation by Iran follows earlier Israeli claims regarding the targeting of senior Iranian military figures in ongoing strikes.
