Russia has issued a pointed warning against any move to shut the Strait of Hormuz, while calling on the United States to avoid targeting Iran’s sensitive nuclear infrastructure, as tensions across the Middle East intensify.
In statements reported Monday, Russian officials emphasized that blocking the critical النفط transit corridor would have far-reaching global consequences. “We oppose closing the Strait of Hormuz, but the issue must be viewed in its broader context,” the statement read, underscoring Moscow’s concern about escalating disruptions to global energy flows.
In a follow-up remark, Russia urged Washington to exercise caution regarding Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, warning against military action that could trigger severe regional and environmental fallout. “We hope the U.S. will act wisely and not target Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant,” officials added.

The comments come amid a sharp escalation in the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, with hostilities spreading beyond its borders. Reports indicate explosions in Tehran, retaliatory Iranian strikes on Gulf targets, and ballistic missile activity detected over Saudi Arabia. The widening scope of the conflict has heightened fears of a broader regional war.
The International Energy Agency has already sounded the alarm, warning that the crisis represents a “major, major threat” to the global economy—potentially surpassing the combined impact of the 1970s oil shocks.
Meanwhile, the United States Central Command has indicated that its ongoing campaign related to Iran remains “ahead or on plan,” suggesting that further developments may be imminent.
