Anthropic PBC’s widely used AI chatbot, Claude, encountered significant service interruptions on Monday, with reports from thousands of users tracked by the monitoring site Downdetector.
The root cause of the disruption remains undetermined. In a status update, Anthropic reported “elevated errors” affecting certain services and initiated an investigation at 11:49 a.m.
According to the company’s status page, the outage impacted users of the Claude chatbot and its coding tool, Claude Code. However, applications integrating Claude via API continued to function normally.
For non-logged-in users, the Claude app was inaccessible, and social media posts on X featured screenshots of an error message indicating a “temporary service disruption.”
Anthropic clarified on its status page: “We have identified that the Claude API is working as intended. The issues we are seeing are related to Claude.ai and with the login/logout paths.”
