Ikeja Electric is hiring  OND Graduates with an Engineering or Science background and 0–2 years of experience as Distribution Substation Operators (DSO).

Job Responsibilities

A Distribution Substation Operator (DSO) at Ikeja Electric Plc is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining electrical distribution substations that step down high-voltage power to lower voltages for safe distribution to homes, businesses, and industries.

Core responsibilities typically include:

Network Operations and Monitoring

The DSO monitors substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, relays, and switchgear. They track voltage levels, load conditions, and fault indicators to maintain a stable electricity supply.

Switching Operations

They carry out switching procedures to energize or de-energize feeders, isolate faulty sections, and restore power after outages. This must be done strictly in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety regulations.

Fault Detection and Response

When faults occur such as transformer trips, feeder failures, or overloads, the operator identifies the issue, communicates with the control room, and assists in fault isolation and restoration.

Preventive and Routine Maintenance Support

While major maintenance may be handled by technical engineers, the DSO supports inspections, checks oil levels in transformers, monitors temperature readings, and reports abnormalities early.
