Peter Obi Attacked by Gun Wielding Hoodlums in Edo State

2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi was attacked by gunmen in Edo State on Tuesday evening.

Obi and his entourage were attacked at the residence of ADC stalwart Chief Odigie Oyegun where they had gathered to finally receive Olumide Akpata into the party.

In a statement, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide Yunusa Tanko  said he and other ADC leaders travelled from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of party elder Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, where they were attacked by armed individuals who fired shots at the gate.

“They shot at the gate and destroyed several vehicles,” Tanko said, adding that their lives were at risk.

He described the incident as an attempted assassination and said, “democracy is in danger.”.

It was reported that Security agencies, including the DSS, swiftly repelled the attackers and ensured the safety of Peter Obi and John Odigie-Oyegun by escorting them securely to the airport. No casualties were recorded, and efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible.
