International boxing star Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital following the road accident of December 29, 2025, which claimed the lives of two young men, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday and co-signed by Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, and Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy in Ogun State, the governments of both states confirmed that Joshua was clinically fit and would continue his recovery at home.
The statement said the boxer was “emotional and heavy-hearted” over the deaths of his friends. It added that Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay final respects to the deceased, who are scheduled to be repatriated later on Thursday.
Governors, Presidency Express Condolences
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed condolences to the families of the victims and thanked members of the public for the concern and goodwill shown since the incident.
The governors also conveyed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support throughout the period following the accident.
They further commended the medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi for what they described as professionalism and quality care provided to Joshua and other injured persons.

“The governments of Lagos and Ogun states once again commiserate with the families of the two young men—Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami—who tragically lost their lives in the road accident involving Anthony Joshua on the 29th of December 2025,” the statement said.
“We pray that the Almighty grants the repose of their souls and gives their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear this very sad and painful loss.”
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are continuing.
