Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has expressed mixed feelings about the reported US military intervention.
While acknowledging the seriousness of Nigeria’s security challenges, the senator cautioned against uncritical acceptance of foreign military involvement, noting that similar US interventions in other parts of the world have not always delivered sustainable or effective outcomes.
Misrepresentation of Strike Location
He stated the recent United States airstrike in Sokoto State did not take place in Jabo community of Tambu Local Government Area as initially reported.

Speaking in an interview, Tambuwal explained that the actual target of the airstrike was a terrorist enclave located in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state. He said early reports had misrepresented the location, leading to confusion and anxiety among residents of areas wrongly mentioned.
He stressed that Nigeria’s fight against terrorism must be understood as a collective national struggle rather than a religious or ethnic conflict.
According to him, mischaracterising the conflict risks deepening divisions and undermining national unity at a time when cohesion is most needed.
Tambuwal also called for a more comprehensive and balanced security response, urging authorities to avoid the impression that Sokoto State alone is the focal point of insecurity.
He noted that states such as Borno, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna remain heavily affected by terrorism and banditry and should be included in any serious collaborative security framework.
He concluded by urging the Federal Government to engage with multiple countries willing to assist Nigeria, pointing out that terrorism is a transnational threat affecting the entire Sahel region and cannot be effectively addressed in isolation.
