Ex-France international Wissam Ben Yedder and his brother Sabri are set to stand trial on charges of rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault, the Nice public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Monday.
The 35-year-old former Monaco and Sevilla forward, who earned 19 caps for France, was indicted in 2023 after two women accused the brothers of sexual misconduct following a party encounter. Both men have strongly denied the allegations.
The case will proceed before the Alpes-Maritimes Criminal Court, with the investigating judge approving the prosecution’s request to try the siblings for rape and sexual assault.

An additional charge of attempted rape was leveled specifically against Wissam Ben Yedder.
His attorney, Sophia Kerbaa, immediately announced plans to appeal the decision, stating: “Mr. Ben Yedder has vehemently contested these accusations from the outset of the proceedings.”
Currently playing for Turkish second-division club Sakaryaspor, Ben Yedder’s recent years have been overshadowed by legal troubles.
In September 2025, he was fined €90,000 and handed a six-month suspended sentence for psychological abuse of his estranged wife.
He previously received a two-year suspended jail term in Spain for tax fraud during his time at Sevilla, and in November 2024, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in France.
After leaving Monaco as a free agent in June 2024, Ben Yedder briefly joined Iranian side Sepahan SC before signing with Sakaryaspor in early September.
The trial date has not yet been scheduled.
