The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba state has alleged that the state legislature received a financial inducement of N1.5 billion to approve the request of the state Government to secure a N350 billion bond.
Taraba State governor, Lt. Col. Agbu Kefas Rtd. had earlier announced plans to secure a N500 billion loan to aid the developmental imperatives of his state from the capital market. This was however met with opposition by the APC and other critical stakeholders who insist the governor is yet to show evidence of what he used the earlier N206.7 billion he borrowed from a consortium of banks for.
State Legislature Response
Responding to the allegations of receiving bribes, Nelson Lens, the Chairman of the Taraba state house of Assembly Committee stated ” The allegations that we were given N1.5billion is not true, it’s baseless and I don’t know the house that is coming from.
“By the way, we just approved the bond and they have not accessed these funds yet. Do not forget that these funds is coming from the capital market.
“Bonds are not just kept there as loans that you pick, it is investors that lend their money to you”
He also noted that the bonds would be accessed in tranches by the state government which means the state government would be held accountable of its every use of the money.
