Yobe State Governor, Mai Buni emerges as the new chairman of Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni emerged as the new chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.

Mr. Buni was elected chair during a special session of the forum held on Friday in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The forum has its focus on: “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community”.

In his formal acceptance speech, Governor Buni pledged to execute the responsibilities of Chairman with dedication and integrity.

He expressed his sincere appreciation to his fellow governors for the confidence demonstrated by their vote, acknowledging the gravity of the position and the importance of collaborative efforts within the Lake Chad Basin region.

“I wish to start by expressing my personal appreciation and profound gratitude of the government and people of Yobe State to Your Excellencies, my colleagues, the Governors of the Lake Chad Basin region, delegates, as well as all other stakeholders for attending and also contributing to making this event a success story,” he expressed.

Governor Buni expressed his hope for the effective implementation of the meeting’s resolutions and outcomes.

He further emphasized the critical need for robust partnerships, sustained support, and strategic resource allocation to achieve the forum’s shared goals of regional development and prosperity.

He affirmed his commitment to collaborating with his fellow governors and development partners to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development within the Lake Chad Basin region.

The newly elected chairman commended the outgoing chairperson, Ildjima Abdraman, Governor of Hadjer Lamis Province in Chad, for her service. He concluded by thanking all participants for their support and wishing them safe travels.
