UniOsun joins ASUU strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Osun State University branch, has announced that it will participate in the two-week warning strike declared by the union’s national leadership.

What led to the decision?

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Monday, the UniOsun ASUU Chairman, Dr. Weinde Olaosebikan, confirmed the branch’s compliance with the nationwide directive.

“The strike is a national directive; therefore, all ASUU branches must fully comply,” he said. “There is no division among our members. UniOsun ASUU will join the strike, and we will issue an official directive before noon. The strike begins at midnight today.”

He further explained that all academic activities at the university would be suspended throughout the two-week warning strike.

According to NAN, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Chris Piwuna, announced the industrial action during a press conference held on Sunday at the University of Abuja.

Piwuna said the decision followed the expiration of the union’s ultimatum to the Federal Government to address its outstanding demands.
