Rita Akushie Appointed University of Cambridge’s Chief Financial Officer

Rita has more than 30 years of experience in financial leadership across higher education, infrastructure investment, housing and the charity sector.

The University of Cambridge has appointed Rita Akushie as its next Chief Financial Officer. She recently served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Operations) at the University of London.

Rita has more than 30 years of experience in financial leadership across higher education, infrastructure investment, housing and the charity sector. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and of the Association of Corporate Treasurers and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and French from the University of Ghana.

Prior to her work in higher education, Akushie built a distinguished career in the social housing and charity sectors. From 2019 to 2020, she served as the CFO for Cancer Research UK, where she was an accomplished senior commercial leader with experience in business change management.
She is currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Operations) at the University of London, a position she has held since 2020, and will become the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the University of Cambridge in December 2025. Akushie is also a non-executive director and the Chair of Audit for HICL Infrastructure Plc, a FTSE 250 company.
Before that, she held several key roles in the social housing sector, including interim CFO at Sovereign Housing Association in 2018, Group Finance Director at Thames Valley Housing Association from 2017 to 2018, and Deputy Chief Executive and Group Finance Director at Newlon Group for 13 years.
