Rauf Aregbesola Accepts ADC National Secretary Role

Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun State governor and ex-Minister of Interior, has accepted the role of National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a statement shared on his official X handle on July 2, 2025, Aregbesola expressed profound humility and a deep sense of duty toward the party and its mission.

Aregbesola thanked the ADC leadership for their trust in appointing him to this pivotal role. He also acknowledged the party’s committed members and supporters who believe politics can be a force for positive change.

The former governor emphasized that a political party should not serve as a platform for opportunism or personal ambition. Instead, he views it as a living institution rooted in values, guided by ideals, and accountable to the people it represents.

Aregbesola drew inspiration from the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, a 113-year-old institution renowned for its ideological clarity and supremacy over elected officials. He highlighted the ANC’s legacy as a model for a party grounded in justice, dignity, equality, and inclusivity.

While acknowledging the ANC’s imperfections, Aregbesola praised its character and vision-driven leadership. He sees the ADC as a platform to similarly express the aspirations of Nigerians through principled governance.

The new National Secretary’s appointment signals a commitment to strengthening the ADC’s role in Nigeria’s political landscape. His vision aligns with building a party that prioritizes ideology and people-centered governance over personal gain.

Aregbesola’s leadership is expected to steer the ADC toward greater influence in Nigerian politics. His acceptance speech underscores a dedication to fostering a party with integrity and a clear mission for progress.

As Nigeria navigates complex political dynamics, Aregbesola’s role could reshape the ADC into a formidable force. His focus on values-driven politics may resonate with citizens seeking authentic leadership and accountability.
