Profile: Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi, New MTN Group Chief People and Culture Officer

She is a seasoned Zambian telecommunications executive with more than two decades of experience leading technology, commercial, and business transformation initiatives across Africa's telecom industry.

MTN Group has appointed Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi as its new Group Chief People and Culture Officer. 

“Mitwa will lead MTN’s people and culture agenda at a pivotal time in our Ambition 2030 journey,” said MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita.

“She will take the reins from Paul, who will retire after a stellar career at MTN and having made a significant contribution to the business over almost three decades.” The company statement added

Mitwa is currently CEO of MTN Côte d’Ivoire. She will be succeeded by Abbad Reda, who is the CEO of MTN Zambia. Abbad, in turn, will be succeeded by Larry Annetts. Larry’s last role was as Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Commercial Officer seconded to Irancell.

Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi is a seasoned Zambian telecommunications executive with more than two decades of experience leading technology, commercial, and business transformation initiatives across Africa’s telecom industry. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Namibia and a Master’s degree in Computer Science (Software Engineering) from the University of Eastern Finland, formerly the University of Joensuu.

Ng’ambi began her professional career in the banking sector as an IT developer and assistant project manager at Danske Bank International before transitioning into telecommunications. She joined MTN Group, where she held several leadership positions in Zambia and later advanced to senior commercial roles across the continent. Her career progression included serving as Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Benin, after which she moved to Millicom (Tigo), where she served as Chief Commercial Officer and subsequently Chief Executive Officer of Tigo Senegal.

In 2018, Ng’ambi was appointed Chief Executive Officer of AirtelTigo Ghana, where she led the integration and growth of the merged telecommunications business. She later joined MTN Rwanda as Chief Executive Officer in 2019, overseeing significant milestones including the company’s listing on the Rwanda Stock Exchange and the expansion of its fintech and digital services businesses. In 2022, she became the first female Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon, where she spearheaded the company’s digital transformation agenda and strengthened its market position.

Her leadership achievements earned her recognition as MTN Group’s CEO of the Year for 2023. In 2025, she was appointed Chief Executive Officer of MTN Côte d’Ivoire, one of the group’s largest operating companies in West Africa. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for driving innovation, expanding mobile financial services, enhancing customer experience, and leading large-scale organizational transformation initiatives across multiple African markets.

Beyond her executive responsibilities, Ng’ambi has also contributed to youth development and entrepreneurship initiatives, serving on the board of JA Africa. Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most influential female business leaders, she has worked in Zambia, Benin, Senegal, Ghana, Rwanda, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Finland, and Denmark, bringing extensive international experience in telecommunications, technology, digital services, and corporate leadership.
