NNPC Trading MD, Maryamu Idris Appointed OPEC National Representative for Nigeria

As Nigeria’s OPEC National Representative, Maryamu will act as the country’s principal technical liaison within the Organisation.

Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited, Maryamu Idris, has been appointed as OPEC’s National Representative for Nigeria. In her new role, she would assist in shaping Nigeria’s and global energy strategies.

Her new role makes her a member of OPEC’s Economic Commission Board (ECB). She focuses on analyzing and providing technical input on key oil market issues. This is meant to enhance the country’s position within the global energy landscape.

Role Details

As Nigeria’s OPEC National Representative, Maryamu will act as the country’s principal technical liaison within the Organisation. She will foster collaboration with other OPEC member countries. This ensures that Nigeria’s energy interests are effectively represented and aligned with broader OPEC objectives.

Before taking on her current position, Maryamu Idris held several other key roles within NNPC Trading, including Executive Director for Planning and Commercial, and Executive Director for Crude and Condensate. Her extensive experience also includes serving as a manager and deputy manager in the Crude Oil Marketing Division of NNPC.

She also previously held active roles in the Energy Transition Implementation Committee (ETIC). Furthermore, she contributed to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) reforms and the NNPC Limited’s Oil and Gas Investment Committee (OGIC).

She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Economics from the University of Abuja, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Energy Economics from the University of Dundee in Scotland, United Kingdom.
