The Nigerian Army is currently accepting applications for its Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 49/2026, inviting qualified Nigerians to join as commissioned officers. This opportunity is available to both serving military personnel and civilians who meet the eligibility criteria.
The application window began on October 9, 2025, and will end on November 12, 2025. Successful candidates will undergo training and be assigned to combat or combat support roles within the Army.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
– Be Nigerian citizens by birth.- Be aged between 23 and 27 years as of January 9, 2026.
– Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Army standards.
– Meet minimum height requirements: 1.68 meters for males and 1.65 meters for females.
– Have no criminal record or ongoing disciplinary issues. Serving personnel require endorsement from their commanding officer.
– Hold at least a first degree with a Second Class Lower division or an HND with Lower Credit from an accredited institution, obtained between 2017 and the present.
– Provide a valid birth certificate or age declaration, along with a certificate of state of origin.
– For civilians: Possess an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
– Supply contact details for parents/guardians and next of kin.
– Have no tattoos or body inscriptions.
– Submit original educational certificates from primary through tertiary levels.
– For serving personnel: Have at least five years of service, provide a military ID, recommendation letters, and disclose service status accurately.
– Not be affiliated with any cult, secret society, or fraternity.
– Not have been dismissed or withdrawn from any military or paramilitary training program.
Civilian applicants must also include attestation letters from two credible referees, such as a Local Government Chairman/Secretary or a senior military/police officer (at least Lieutenant Colonel or Assistant Commissioner of Police) from their state of origin. Additionally, a letter of attestation from their previous educational institution is required.
