Nigeria’s crude oil production rose to 1.507 million barrels per day (bpd) in July 2025, surpassing the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’ (OPEC) target for the second consecutive month, according to OPEC’s latest Monthly Oil Market Report.

The figure, based on direct communication with Nigerian authorities, marks a slight increase from 1.505 million bpd in June, reinforcing the country’s position as Africa’s leading oil producer, ahead of Algeria’s 937,000 bpd.

OPEC sources crude output data from both member-state submissions and secondary energy intelligence platforms.

The report noted that total OPEC+ crude production averaged 41.94 million bpd in July, up by 335,000 bpd month-on-month, with about half of the gain driven by Saudi Arabia’s 165,000 bpd supply-to-market increase.

However, in a footnote, Saudi Arabia indicated actual production fell by 551,000 bpd to 9.2 million.

OPEC analysis suggests global oil inventories could shrink by 1.2 million bpd in 2026 if the group and its allies do not restore more of the supply currently curtailed.

This potential shortage underscores the strategic significance of Nigeria’s steady production gains in meeting market needs.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) reported gas production increased to 7.581 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscf/d) in June, up from 7.352 bscf/d in May.

However, crude oil and condensate sales fell to 21.68 million barrels in June, down from 24.77 million barrels in May, reflecting market adjustments.
