Moniepoint has finalised its acquisition of Orda Africa, a cloud-based restaurant management platform that streamlines operations for food businesses.

The deal, announced Monday, will see Orda integrated into Moniebook—Moniepoint’s all-in-one point-of-sale and business management solution launched in 2025.

The integration is designed to unify payments, bookkeeping, inventory, and operational workflows into a single, interoperable stack tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food services sector.

This development aligns with a broader consolidation wave across Nigeria’s fintech landscape. Recent transactions—including Flutterwave’s acquisition of Mono, Paystack’s purchase of Ladder Microfinance Bank, and Andela’s acquisition of Woven—highlight a clear industry pattern: scaling through M&A to build full-stack capabilities and defend market share.

According to Tosin Eniolorunda, the acquisition reflects a deliberate focus on Africa’s informal economy, where food businesses serve as a critical engine of employment and daily commerce. He emphasised that integrating operational and financial tools will reduce friction for restaurant operators and improve business scalability.

On the Orda side, CEO Guy Futi noted that the partnership enables the platform to expand its reach and functionality. Existing users will retain access while gaining additional services such as embedded finance, including credit and enhanced market access.

From a strategic standpoint, the acquisition signals Moniepoint’s intent to capture more value across the merchant lifecycle, particularly within the high-frequency, cash-intensive restaurant segment. By embedding Orda’s capabilities, Moniepoint is effectively transitioning from a payments-led model toward a vertically integrated fintech infrastructure provider.

In practical terms, the combined platform positions Moniepoint to offer a more comprehensive merchant solution—bridging payments, operations, and financing—at a time when digitization of Africa’s food economy is accelerating rapidly.
