Kenya has officially become Visa-Free for all African countries except Libya and Somalia due to security reasons. This is after Kenya over the weekend announced the immediate removal of all visa requirements and the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for nearly all African countries in a bid to foster greater regional integration, boost tourism, and encourage intra-African trade.
Kenya’s Visa-Free Policy
Kenya had, in January 2025, announced the allowance of visa-free entry for stays of up to 60 days, but still required travelers to obtain pre-authorization through the ETA. The ETA requirement has now been removed altogether, to signal a new era in African unity.
The latest development makes Kenya the first country to fully key into the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions a continent where borders are no longer divisions but bridges that unite people across national lines.
The changes now allow African visitors to stay in Kenya for up to two months, while East African Community (EAC) nationals benefit from a six-month stay as per existing free movement protocols within the EAC.
In addition to African countries, many Caribbean countries have also been upgraded to a visa-free status in Kenya to further strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean.
Digital Nomad Visa Option
Kenya is set to introduce a digital nomad visa, aimed at attracting remote workers, freelancers, and tech entrepreneurs seeking to live and work in the country. The visa offers remote professionals the chance to enjoy Kenya’s vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and expanding digital infrastructure all while continuing their international careers.
To be eligible, applicants must provide proof of remote employment or freelance work with foreign companies, meet a minimum monthly income threshold , hold a valid passport with at least six months’ validity, and show evidence of health or travel insurance. Additional requirements may include a clean criminal record and confirmation of accommodation or an invitation letter.
To apply, applicants should prepare required documents such as a valid passport, proof of income and employment, health insurance, and passport-sized photos. Once the immigration portal is live, they can submit their application online and pay an estimated fee between $100 and $200. Visa processing times are expected to range from two to four weeks.
