FAAN Ends Cash Payments at Nigerian Airports : Passengers Must Register Online and Pick Up GoCashless Cards by 1 March 2026

Since September 2025, FAAN has been phasing out cash collections at revenue points such as airport access gates, car parks, VIP and protocol lounges.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the end of all physical cash payments at airport revenue points across the country, effective 1 March 2026. The move marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s transition to a fully digital payments economy and aligns airport operations with global standards.

Passengers, airport users, and service providers are now required to complete registration at the official portal http://www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng/ and collect their FAAN Go Cashless cards at any FAAN-managed airport before the deadline to avoid service disruptions.

Why FAAN Is Going Cashless

Since September 2025, FAAN has been phasing out cash collections at revenue points such as airport access gates, car parks, VIP and protocol lounges, and other service touchpoints under its “Operation Go Cashless” initiative. The strategy, launched in partnership with digital payment platforms, reflects a broader government directive for federal agencies to adopt digital payment systems and reduce reliance on physical currency.

According to FAAN management, the full switch to digital payments is intended to:

• Boost revenue assurance and reduce leakages.

• Eliminate cash-handling delays at busy airport terminals.

• Strengthen transparency and accountability in collections.

• Enhance customer experience through faster, seamless transactions.

What Travellers Must Do Before 1 March 2026

1. Register at the GoCashless Portal

Passengers should visit http://www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng/ and complete the required registration. This step is mandatory to activate digital payment privileges at FAAN airports.

2. Pick Up Your FAAN Go Cashless Card

Once registered, travellers can collect their Go Cashless cards at designated points inside airports such as Murtala Muhammed International Airport (Lagos) and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (Abuja). Cards can be funded and activated immediately after pickup via the portal.

3. Prepare Alternative Digital Payment Options

Passengers and airport users who choose not to use the FAAN GoCashless card are advised to ensure they have compatible digital payment methods (bank cards, mobile money, or other approved channels) to pay for services effectively.

Stakeholder Engagement Leads Up to Implementation

FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, emphasized that the cashless transition is consistent with national financial management reforms and global best practices in aviation. FAAN engaged with unions and service providers ahead of implementation to foster collaboration and smooth the adoption process.
