Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri has become global fashion company Chanel’s first black global ambassador. Born to a Nigerian father and a mother from Barbados, Edebiri was first a comedian before breaking into Hollywood.
Hollywood Career
Ayo Edebiri is one of Hollywood’s most talked-about rising stars. After gaining acclaim for her performance as Sydney “Syd” Adamu in The Bear, she’s earned major awards (Emmy, Golden Globe, etc.), proving herself not just as a comedic voice but a dramatic lead.
Overtime, Edebiri has steadily increased her visibility not only as an actor and writer but as a style figure. Her presence at film festivals and red carpet events in Chanel before the formal deal hinted at an alignment of style and identity.
Chanel Deal
On October 6, 2025, Chanel formally announced Ayo Edebiri as its new House Ambassador under the leadership of Creative Director Matthieu Blazy.
Chanel explicitly described her as “a natural ally” for the brand, saying she “embodies a new generation of genre-defying performers” whose wit, perspective, and style make her a fitting partner for Chanel’s evolving vision.
It’s also noted that she is the first Black actress to hold this particular “House Ambassador” title at Chanel.
Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2026 runway show (in Paris) was a major moment: Edebiri made appearances in that show and then wore looks from it on red carpets (e.g. London premiere After The Hunt).
