Argentina’s Foreign Minister Quits as Milei Prepares Cabinet reshuffle

Argentina foreign minister resigns

Argentina’s Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein has resigned, the presidential office confirmed late Tuesday, amid expectations of a broader cabinet reshuffle following Sunday’s midterm elections.

President Javier Milei had earlier hinted at significant changes within his administration, saying that a cabinet shake-up would follow the polls  an event closely watched by investors assessing the future of his ambitious economic reforms.

Local newspaper La Nación reported that Werthein’s departure had been anticipated, though his replacement has yet to be announced.

Werthein, a businessman-turned-diplomat, has played a central role in shaping Argentina’s foreign policy under Milei’s government, which has sought to strengthen ties with major global economies while addressing the country’s persistent economic instability.

The resignation adds to the political uncertainty surrounding Milei’s next moves, as the outcome of the midterms will likely influence how aggressively the president can pursue his reform agenda aimed at stabilizing Argentina’s inflation-hit economy.
