Delta State has overtaken Lagos as Nigeria’s largest recipient of Federation Account Allocation Committee funds after receiving N188.01 billion in the second quarter of 2026.
The shift came as total FAAC allocations to Nigeria’s 36 states rose to N2.39 trillion between April and June, representing an increase of N259.41 billion, or 12.2 per cent, from the N2.13 trillion distributed in the first quarter.
An analysis of FAAC disbursements shows that oil-producing states accounted for much of the increase, with Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa recording substantial quarter-on-quarter gains.
Delta’s allocation rose from N143.42 billion in Q1 to N188.01 billion in Q2, an increase of N44.59 billion or 31.1 per cent. Rivers followed with N172.03 billion, up from N123.96 billion in Q1.
Lagos, which ranked first in Q1 with N200.21 billion, dropped to third position after its allocation declined to N165.57 billion.
Delta Takes Top Position
Delta received N53.77 billion in April, N67.81 billion in May and N66.44 billion in June, bringing its Q2 total to N188.01 billion.
Rivers recorded an even larger absolute increase, adding N48.07 billion to its Q1 allocation. Its receipts rose 38.8% from N123.96 billion in Q1 to N172.03 billion in Q2.
Rivers’ June allocation of N70.32 billion was the highest monthly allocation recorded by any state during the quarter.
Akwa Ibom recorded the largest percentage increase among the five biggest Q2 beneficiaries. Its allocation jumped 46.2% from N109.76 billion in Q1 to N160.51 billion in Q2.
Bayelsa also recorded a strong increase, with its allocation rising 33% from N114.47 billion to N152.25 billion.
Together, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa added about N181.19 billion to their combined allocations between Q1 and Q2.
Lagos Allocation Falls by N34.64bn
Lagos’ move from first to third position was driven by a sharp fall in its Q2 receipts.
The state received N200.21 billion in Q1 but only N165.57 billion in Q2, representing a decline of N34.64 billion or 17.3%.
The fall was largely associated with lower VAT receipts. Lagos received approximately N193.50 billion from VAT in Q1, including N101.34 billion in February, alongside other revenue components.
Its net VAT allocation fell to N150.56 billion in Q2, a decline of about N42.94 billion or 22.2%
Despite the reduction, Lagos remained the largest net VAT recipient among Nigeria’s 36 states.
Most States Record Increases
Most states recorded higher FAAC receipts in Q2.
Imo increased from N50.31 billion to N57.38 billion, while Taraba and Kaduna rose by 13.1% and 12% respectively.
Ogun’s allocation increased 18.1% from N36.13 billion to N42.67 billion. Abia rose 11.2%, Ondo 11.3%, Ebonyi 9.5% and Borno 9.3%.
Jigawa recorded only a marginal increase, from N55.75 billion to N55.86 billion, while Enugu rose from N45.67 billion to N45.86 billion.
Adamawa increased by 1%, while Edo and Oyo recorded increases of about 1.7%.
Lagos was the only state whose total FAAC allocation declined between Q1 and Q2 based on the supplied figures.
