The United States Embassy in Abuja has announced a new employment opportunity for qualified Nigerians and other eligible candidates interested in working as a Chauffeur/Administrative Clerk.
The position, listed under vacancy number Abuja-2026-026, is open to all interested candidates and offers an annual salary of $9,631.

U.S. Embassy Chauffeur/Administrative Clerk Job Details
The position is based at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and is a full-time role requiring 48 hours of work per week.
The appointment is permanent but remains indefinite until the successful completion of the required probationary period.
The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance and will undergo a background investigation.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will operate fully armored and lightly armored vehicles to transport senior embassy personnel and visiting senior officials to high-level meetings in Abuja and Lagos.
The officer will also serve as an alternate supervisor when the designated supervisor is unavailable. In that capacity, the employee will provide guidance to team members and help maintain the team’s overall work schedule.
Other responsibilities include coordinating with the embassy’s General Services Office (GSO) Travel and Motor Pool to ensure transportation support for embassy personnel and visitors.
The employee will also be expected to have detailed knowledge of local roads and traffic conditions, including alternative routes that may be used during protests or other disruptions.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Conducting preventive maintenance checks on assigned vehicles.
- Ensuring embassy vehicles are properly maintained and kept clean.
- Supporting the operation of the embassy vehicle fleet.
- Serving as a cash custodian when required.
- Preparing procurement plans as necessary.
- Following established embassy procedures and instructions.
- Providing safe and professional transportation for embassy officials and visitors.
U.S. Embassy Chauffeur Job Requirements
Applicants must have completed high school to qualify for the position.
Candidates must also have at least three years of previous work experience performing chauffeur and administrative duties.
The successful applicant must demonstrate good working knowledge of English, including reading, writing and speaking.
Applicants are also expected to have knowledge of:
- Nigerian traffic laws.
- Roads and routes within the local area.
- Government facilities.
- Embassies and consulates.
- Restaurants and shops in Abuja and other relevant locations.
Driver’s Licence Requirements
Candidates must possess a valid and current Nigerian driver’s licence for a car.
The licence must have been valid for a minimum of five years.
Applicants must also be capable of operating Level C or D armoured vehicles and demonstrate defensive driving skills.
Computer Skills Required
Proficiency in common Microsoft Office applications is also required.

Candidates may also be required to complete a pre-employment language or skills assessment as part of the recruitment process.

Failure to meet this requirement may result in the termination of the candidacy.
