Residents and businesses in parts of Ogun State will experience a planned six-hour electricity outage on Thursday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria conducts maintenance work on its transmission infrastructure.
The outage, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 14, 2026, will affect customers in the McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin areas supplied by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
According to Transmission Company of Nigeria, the temporary blackout is necessary to allow engineers carry out preventive routine checks on the 40MVA 132/33KV power transformer located at the McPherson Transmission Substation.

In a statement issued on Thursday through its official communication channels, the company explained that the maintenance exercise is aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing the likelihood of unexpected equipment failures across the transmission network.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the maintenance would require a temporary suspension of electricity supply in the affected communities.
“The maintenance exercise is to enable TCN crew to undertake preventive routine checks on the transformer to ensure continued optimal performance. Consequently, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply electricity to its customers in McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin during the period of the maintenance,” she stated.
TCN apologised to residents and commercial operators likely to be impacted by the interruption, urging customers to bear with the inconvenience while the work is completed.
The development comes amid ongoing concerns over electricity reliability in Nigeria, where distribution companies and transmission operators continue to carry out periodic maintenance and infrastructure upgrades to stabilise power supply.
