Profile: Fiona Ahimie, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers’ First Female President

Fiona Ahimie has made history after being elected the 14th President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, becoming the first woman to lead the institute since its establishment more than three decades ago.

Her emergence marks a significant milestone for gender inclusion in Nigeria’s capital market and financial services sector, where leadership positions at the highest level have traditionally been dominated by men. She is expected to be formally inaugurated on June 25, 2026, when her tenure officially begins.

Ahimie succeeds Oluropo Dada, whose administration focused on institutional reforms, strategic growth, and increased industry visibility. Industry observers say her appointment signals continuity while also representing a landmark governance shift within the institute.

Fiona Ahimie’s Capital Market Career

A respected capital markets professional, Ahimie currently serves as Managing Director of First Securities Brokers Limited, a subsidiary of First HoldCo Plc. She brings more than 15 years of experience across securities trading, investment strategy, client development, and market operations.

Her professional journey has included senior roles at Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers, FBNQuest Capital, African Alliance Securities Nigeria, and Lead Capital, where she built a reputation as a results-driven executive with deep expertise in Nigeria’s equities and brokerage markets.

Strong Business Qualification

She holds an MBA from Lagos Business School and a diploma from IESE Business School. She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

Path to Leadership

She previously served as Second Vice President before becoming First Vice President, paving the way for her elevation to the presidency.

Her appointment is being widely viewed as a breakthrough moment for women aspiring to leadership positions within Nigeria’s financial ecosystem.
