James Makinde has been appointed as the new Managing Director of ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), effective 20th April 2026, succeeding Effiong Okon who retired after a distinguished career.

An accomplished energy sector professional with over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, James brings deep expertise across the full gas value chain. His strengths span commercial deal structuring and delivery, gas asset and infrastructure management, gas market development, gas-to-power solutions, renewables integration, investment and portfolio management, as well as strategy development and commercial operations.

Oil & Gas Sector Experience

Before his appointment at AGPC, James served as General Manager, Gas Business at Seplat Energy Plc (since March 2023), where he oversees the company’s extensive gas operations and supports its strategic ambition to expand into the renewables and power value chain.

His illustrious career includes a 14-year tenure at Shell, during which he held several key leadership positions:

  • West Africa Business Development Manager, New Energies (Shell New Energies / Emerging Market Power), where he played a pivotal role in driving Shell’s investments in renewable energy and power businesses across Africa.
  • Commercial Lead, Domestic Gas Development for Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), responsible for the commercial aspects of major upstream gas projects, including four of the Federal Government’s “7 Critical Gas Development Projects.”
  • Business Development and Commercial Manager at Shell Nigeria Gas Limited, leading new business development, deal origination, and the management of commercial agreements for downstream natural gas distribution.

Before joining Seplat, he was General Manager, Commercial and Ventures Development at Ardova Plc, where he drove the company’s energy transition initiatives across gas (LPG), renewables, power, and electric mobility, while also commercializing its marginal field interests.

James currently serves as Chairman of the Oil Producers Trade Sector (OPTS) Gas Sub-committee and as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Gas Aggregator Company of Nigeria (GACN).James Makinde ANOH Gas

He holds an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and an MSc in Offshore and Ocean Technology (Subsea Pipelines Engineering Specialization) from Cranfield University, United Kingdom. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®).

James Makinde is widely recognized for his strategic insight, strong commercial acumen, and proven ability to deliver complex energy projects that create value across the Nigerian and West African energy landscape.
