Cadbury Nigeria Appoints Sree Patel as Non-Executive

Cadbury Nigeria Strengthens Board with Mondelez Legal Chief Sree Patel

Sree Patel

Cadbury Nigeria Plc has appointed Ms. Sree Patel as a Non-Executive Director, strengthening the board’s legal, regulatory, and governance expertise at a time of heightened compliance and shareholder scrutiny in Nigeria’s listed-company space.

The appointment, which takes effect from 26 January 2026, was formally disclosed to Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public in a regulatory notice dated 27 January 2026

Strategic Board Addition

Ms. Patel is currently Vice President & Chief Counsel, Asia Middle East & Africa (AMEA) at Mondelez International, Cadbury Nigeria’s parent company.

In that role, she oversees legal and regulatory strategy across AMEA markets with combined revenues exceeding $7 billion, advising on risk, compliance, and long-term value preservation across complex jurisdictions.

Her appointment signals a deliberate reinforcement of Cadbury Nigeria’s board with deep cross-border legal and governance capability, particularly relevant as multinational consumer goods companies navigate FX volatility, regulatory reforms, ESG expectations, and evolving capital-market standards in Nigeria.

Extensive Legal, Regulatory and Governance Experience

Ms. Patel brings broad experience across FMCG, pharmaceuticals, and regulated industries, with expertise spanning:

    • Corporate law and board governance

    • Mergers, acquisitions, and divestments

    • Anti-bribery and corruption compliance (FCPA and UK Bribery Act)

    • Intellectual property and licensing

    • Litigation and dispute resolution

    • Share buy-backs, minority shareholder exits, and listings

Before joining Mondelez, she held senior leadership roles at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, most recently as Vice President, Legal & Corporate Affairs, and earlier in her career worked with the Tata Group.

Independent Directorships and Board Committees

Beyond Mondelez, Ms. Patel serves as an Independent Director on the board of Hyundai Motors India Limited, where she chairs the Nomination & Remuneration Committee and sits on the Audit and Risk Committees.

She recently concluded the maximum allowable two terms as an Independent Director at Greaves Cotton Ltd., where she chaired CSR & ESG-related committees and stakeholder oversight functions.

Updated Cadbury Nigeria Board Composition

Following the appointment, the board of Cadbury Nigeria Plc comprises:

    1. Mr. Adedotun Sulaiman, MFR – Chairman

    2. Mrs. Folake Ogundipe – Interim Managing Director

    3. Mrs. Ibukun Awosika – Non-Executive Director

    4. Mrs. Kofo Akinkugbe, OON – Independent Non-Executive Director

    5. Ms. Olubunmi Lawson – Independent Non-Executive Director

    6. Mr. Abhiroop Chuckarbutty – Non-Executive Director

    7. Ms. Sree Patel – Non-Executive Director

Why This Matters

For investors, the appointment underscores Mondelez’s continued hands-on governance oversight of its Nigerian subsidiary and reflects a broader trend among multinationals to embed global legal and compliance leadership directly into local boards.

For Cadbury Nigeria, it enhances board depth at a time when regulatory compliance, minority shareholder protection, and capital-market credibility are increasingly decisive for valuation and investor confidence.
