Badagry Kingdom Loses Long-Serving Monarch

The ancient town of Badagry in Lagos State is in mourning following the death of its paramount ruler, the Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi.

The respected traditional leader passed away at the age of 89 after a brief illness.

Sources within the palace confirmed that the monarch was certified dead by medical professionals, after which customary burial rites in line with Badagry tradition began.

De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi ascended the throne nearly five decades ago and reigned for 48 years, a tenure that places him among the longest-serving traditional rulers in Lagos State.

His reign was widely regarded as a period of stability, cultural preservation, and community leadership.

Residents and indigenes of Badagry have described his passing as a profound loss, noting that beyond his royal status, the late Akran served as a unifying figure, mentor, and moral authority.

Many recalled his calm disposition and steady guidance during moments of social and political tension within the kingdom.
