Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, briefly interrupted Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as he delivered his address during the grand finale of the Ooni of Ife’s 10th coronation anniversary celebrations in Ile-Ife, Osun State over the weekend.
Tinubu reportedly stepped forward and urged Adeleke to “stop wasting time,” after the Governor resorted to singing during his speech and while the atmosphere remained largely cordial, the incident stood out amid the otherwise harmonious gathering of dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, and governors from Lagos and Ogun states.
About the Ceremony
The event, which took place at Afewonro Park, Enuwa Square, in the Ooni’s Palace marked the culmination of anniversary activities for Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), the revered monarch and Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council. A highlight of the event was the conferment of the prestigious Yoruba title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua (“Mother Leader of All Yorubaland”) on Remi Tinubu, recognising her longstanding support for cultural preservation and national unity.
