Minister of Women Affairs And Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has revealed 15% of Nigerian girls between the ages of 15 and 19 are either pregnant or already mothers.
She stated this at the end of a high-level meeting where Nigeria validated and adopted its first National Policy on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHHM).
The Minister also disclosed that more than 7.3 million adolescent girls and women in the country suffer from undernutrition with 55% of this group affected by anaemia, a condition worsened by poor menstrual hygiene practices and the lack of affordable sanitary products.
