Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, has claimed victory in the 2025 mayoral election for New York City, according to projections from the Associated Press. His main opponent, independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, conceded the race shortly thereafter.
Mamdani, who identifies as a democratic socialist, will make history by becoming New York’s first Muslim mayor.
