Ukraine has offered to help the United States and several Middle Eastern countries defend against Iranian Shahed drones, sharing the battlefield expertise it developed during the war with Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said multiple countries have approached Ukraine for support in countering Iranian-made drones, which have become a major security threat in both Europe and the Middle East.
According to Zelenskyy, the United States and several Gulf nations are interested in Ukraine’s anti-drone technology and military experience gained during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Anti-Drone Expertise Gains Global Attention
Ukraine has spent more than four years defending itself against thousands of Iranian-designed Shahed drones used by Russian forces in the war led by Vladimir Putin.
The repeated drone attacks forced Ukrainian engineers and military units to develop new ways to detect, intercept, and destroy low-cost drones.
Some of Ukraine’s drone defense systems reportedly cost as little as $1,000, making them far cheaper than traditional air-defense weapons that often cost millions per launch.
Because of this innovation, Ukraine is increasingly being seen as a global leader in counter-drone warfare.
Middle East Countries Seek Ukraine’s Drone Defense Support
Zelenskyy revealed that he has recently discussed possible cooperation with leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait.
These countries are exploring ways to strengthen their air defense systems amid rising tensions involving Iran and the increasing use of drone warfare in the region.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine would provide equipment and technical expertise to partners but only if it does not weaken Ukraine’s own defenses.
“Ukraine helps partners who help our security and the protection of our people’s lives,” the Ukrainian president said.
Ukraine’s Growing Drone Industry
Ukraine has rapidly expanded its domestic drone industry during the war, producing interceptor drones specifically designed to hunt and destroy Shahed drones.
The country now has excess production capacity and has begun exploring the export of battle-tested anti-drone technologies to partner nations.
Military analysts say Ukraine’s innovations are reshaping modern air-defense strategies by showing how inexpensive technologies can effectively neutralize large-scale drone attacks.
EU and Global Allies Watching Ukraine’s Strategy
European officials are also studying Ukraine’s drone defense experience.
Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s top diplomat, said discussions between European and Gulf leaders would examine how Ukraine’s expertise could help countries defend against Iranian drone threats.
Russia-Ukraine War Continues Amid Global Tensions
According to the Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian forces have recently regained territory along the roughly 1,250-kilometer frontline.
The Washington-based research group estimates that Ukrainian counterattacks have reclaimed around 257 square kilometers of land since the beginning of the year.
However, the escalating conflict in the Middle East has drawn international attention away from the war and delayed new diplomatic talks aimed at ending the fighting between Russia and Ukraine.
Despite this, Ukrainian officials say their experience defending against Iranian drones could now help strengthen security in other regions facing similar threats.
