On Thursday, local vigilantes, Yansakai, executed a successful ambush near Dansadau town in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, eliminating at least 30 suspected bandits loyal to the notorious warlord Dan Rani, PRNigeria has reported.
The fight, which occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m., was due to an intelligence report that the armed men were set to invade a nearby village. The vigilantes set up ambush on the outskirts of the town, where they battled the bandits in intense fight.
The Yansakai are said to have overwhelmed the attackers, disabling more than 30 on the spot and seizing 16 motorcycles used by the gang. “The bandits were caught unawares, and the vigilantes were very courageous and precise,” a source stated, as quoted by Zagazola.
In a separate event, security personnel rescued Ashiru Dawa, a Community Protection Guard previously abducted by suspected bandits. His body was discovered at 6:00 a.m. in a bush on Gidan Kano and was taken to the hospital for autopsy before being released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic tradition.
Zamfara State, which has long endured banditry and rural insecurity, continues to witness increased efforts by security agencies and locals to confront the lingering menace and return the area to stability.
