Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for the investigation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all members of his cabinet following the recent scandal involving the Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji leading to his resignation.
Atiku Abubakar made this call in a social media post on Wednesday morning, calling for an independent investigation into the certificates of every member of the current cabinet.
“This episode is not isolated. It is a reflection of a pattern, a rot that begins from the very top. The man who occupies the office of President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has for decades been enmeshed in controversies surrounding his identity, age, and academic records. From the Chicago State University saga to multiple contradictory claims under oath, the world has seen ample evidence that Nigeria today is led by a man who himself has been unable to credibly defend the authenticity of his own certificates.
“When a man of questionable identity leads a country, deception becomes the standard of governance. Tinubu’s personal history of alleged forgery and perjury has effectively institutionalized falsehood in public service.
“It is, therefore, unsurprising that his ministers and aides have taken after his example by falsifying documents, inflating records, and desecrating the moral foundation of our nation.”
He thereafter called for a probe into the credentials of the members of the Federal Executive Council noting that those with fraudulent credentials might still be discovered.
“I, therefore, call for an independent, transparent, and comprehensive investigation into the academic and professional credentials of all members of the Federal Executive Council, beginning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself. Nigerians deserve to know the truth about those who preside over their lives and resources.” He concluded.
Uche Nnaji Credential Storm
Uche Nnaji faces allegations of forging both his University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) degree certificate and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate. According to university records, he was admitted in 1981 to study Biochemistry/Microbiology but never completed the programme or graduated. Despite this, Nnaji reportedly presented a Bachelor of Science degree purportedly issued by UNN in 1985.
The controversy deepened when the NYSC said it could not verify his discharge certificate, citing inconsistencies in serial numbers and formatting compared with authentic certificates issued in the same period. Nnaji has since filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to restrain UNN from releasing his academic records, during which he allegedly admitted that the university never issued him a degree certificate.
