Venezuela has begun carrying out Military drills for its civilian population as it anticipates a potential invasion by the US.
The exercise comes after US President Donald Trump accused Venezuela of forcing prisoners and people from mental institutions into the United States, further straining relations between the two countries.
Latest US-Venezuela Tensions
Early this month, the U.S. carried out a strike on a vessel that it claimed was transporting narcotics from Venezuela, killing 11 people. It claimed the vessel was tied to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
The U.S. has also deployed warships, a nuclear-powered submarine, stealth fighter jets (F-35s), and thousands of sailors and marines to the southern Caribbean and near Puerto Rico as part of operations against drug trafficking, but Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro noted the move was an act of aggression and a violation of Venezuelan sovereignty.
“This isn’t tension. It is an aggression all down the line, it’s a judicial aggression when they criminalize us, a political aggression with their daily threatening statements, a diplomatic aggression and an ongoing aggression of military character,” Maduro said of the renewed tensions last week.
