Umar Sani: Peter Mbah Did Not Win 2023 Enugu State Governorship Election

Peter Mbah joins APC

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholder and spokesperson to Ex Vice President Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, Umar Sani has stated that Governor of Enugu state, Peter Mbah did not win the 2023 governorship election in the state.

He stated this on Arise News’ flagship programme on Wednesday morning. This was in response to the defection of Peter Mbah to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

” I have written that on my X handle, and you are on X. You can go to my X handle and check. I said he did not win that election. I wrote it, and I gave my reasons why he did not win the election.

“I am not a double-faced politician. When I say something and I stand by it, initially, since he won, I said he did not win. And I even, I accuse our judiciary of complicity.” He said.

Peter Mbah Defection

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday. His defection was warmly received by key figures in the ruling party. Vice President Kashim Shettima publicly welcomed Mbah into the APC fold, declaring him the new leader of the party in Enugu State.

APC’s caretaker chairman in Enugu, Dr. Ben Nwoye, described the move as a “game-changer for Ndigbo,” calling it a historic political realignment that could strengthen the Southeast’s engagement with the federal government. The defection also saw several members of Mbah’s cabinet, state assembly, and local government officials cross over to the APC.

Political analysts view Mbah’s defection as a major blow to the PDP’s long-standing dominance in the Southeast. Enugu, traditionally a PDP stronghold since 1999, now becomes a crucial foothold for the APC. In a region where it has struggled to gain traction, this is significant.
