UK Prime Minister Urges Abramovich to Release Frozen Chelsea Funds for Ukraine Aid

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Wednesday that his government has approved the release of £2.5 billion from the 2022 sale of Chelsea Football Club to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

The funds, tied to former owner Roman Abramovich, have been frozen due to sanctions amid the ongoing conflict.

In a pointed statement during Prime Minister’s Questions, Starmer directly addressed the Russian billionaire: “Time is running out. Fulfill your pledge and release the money immediately, or we’ll pursue legal options.”

The move aims to redirect the proceeds to assist war-affected communities in Ukraine, fulfilling a long-delayed commitment from the club’s sale
