US President Donald Trump has expressed strong concern over what he described as an “existential threat” to Christianity in Nigeria, calling for immediate action from U.S. lawmakers to address the rising violence against Christians in the country.

In a statement shared on his social media handle, Trump said, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”

He announced his intention to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing the alarming number of Christian deaths. “When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!” Trump declared.

The president called on Congressman Riley Moore, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, and other members of Congress to investigate the situation and report back to him. “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries,” he said.

Reaffirming his commitment to defending Christians globally, Trump concluded, “We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”

Trump’s remarks come amid growing international concern over religiously motivated violence in parts of Nigeria, particularly in the Middle Belt and northern regions, where attacks on Christian communities have intensified in recent years.
