President Bola Tinubu has approved a drastic reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis in Nigeria, slashing fees from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000 per session.
The Presidency confirmed that this subsidy is already active in federal hospitals across the six geopolitical zones, providing immediate relief for patients struggling with kidney-related diseases.
Implementation Across Key Federal Hospitals
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Information, Daniel Bwala, the intervention is in effect at facilities such as:
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja
- University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
- Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri
He added that more medical centres and teaching hospitals will be included before the end of the year to expand nationwide access.
Renewed Hope Agenda in Action
Bwala emphasized that the move aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to eliminate financial barriers to healthcare.
He recalled that the President had also approved free caesarean sections (C-sections) in federal hospitals, a bold step to improve maternal healthcare and reduce preventable maternal deaths.
A Lifeline for Citizens
“With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000, bringing relief to thousands of citizens battling kidney-related diseases,” Bwala stated.
He stressed that together, these measures reflect Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost.
