The Nigerian national football team will earn substantial bonuses for goals scored in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash with Mozambique on Monday evening.

Team officials have confirmed that players will receive $10,000 (approximately ₦14 million) for each goal they net during the knockout fixture scheduled at Fez Stadium in Morocco.

The financial incentive comes from a prominent Nigerian business figure who has partnered with the national team.

The three-time African champions have demonstrated impressive attacking prowess in the tournament’s group stage, finding the back of the net eight times across three matches in Group C.

This offensive output has positioned them as one of the competition’s most dangerous attacking sides.

The enhanced bonus structure represents a significant increase from the group phase, where players earned $5,000 per goal.

The doubling of this incentive for the knockout rounds signals the heightened importance of advancing deeper into the tournament.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, addressed the media in Rabat, providing details about the comprehensive support package assembled for the team.

“The Super Eagles have received full mobilization to achieve success at this tournament,” Dikko stated.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu authorized the AFCON Intervention Fund on November 14. Beyond government support, our commercial partners contributed $5,000 per goal during the group matches and have now doubled that amount to $10,000 for this knockout stage. These performance-based incentives will continue to escalate as the team progresses through the competition.”

The arrangement demonstrates a results-oriented approach to player motivation, with financial rewards tied directly to on-field performance.

The Super Eagles enter Monday’s encounter as favorites against Mozambique, backed by their strong group stage showing and the additional motivation provided by the lucrative incentive structure.
