Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc has announced the appointment of Sunny Kanabe as its new Company Secretary, effective February 20, 2026. This comes after two important appointments to the Board in the last quarter of 2025.
In a formal notification to Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), shareholders and the investing public, the financial services group confirmed that Kanabe’s appointment takes immediate effect, reinforcing its corporate governance and compliance structure at the holding company level.
Kanabe brings over two decades of experience spanning legal advisory, finance, investment and corporate governance. His professional background includes expertise in commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, corporate restructurings, stakeholder management and strategy execution. He is also experienced in overseeing corporate actions and implementing governance frameworks aligned with regulatory standards.

He began his career with Sterling Bank Plc (formerly NAL Bank Plc) in 1999 as a Legal Officer. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become Head, Company Secretariat. In that role, he managed engagements involving the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, shareholders and regulatory authorities, while providing governance leadership and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
The company stated that in his previous capacity, Kanabe led the implementation of corporate governance frameworks, strengthened board effectiveness and enhanced corporate administration processes within the bank.
Academically, Kanabe holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from University of Calabar. He also earned a Master of Laws (LL.M), specializing in Commercial and Corporate Law, International Trade and Banking Law, from University of Lagos. In addition, he obtained a Global Professional Master of Laws (GPLLM) degree from University of Toronto.
He has participated in several local and international professional development programmes and is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
