Sola Giwa, Special Adviser on Transportation to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stepped down from his role, signaling a shift in his political ambitions.

Giwa announced his resignation on Wednesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that he had formally exited his position a day earlier.

“It has been an honor to serve and contribute to the transformation of our transport system under the THEMES+ Agenda. I remain grateful to Mr. Governor for the trust and opportunity,” he wrote.

During his tenure, Giwa played a key role in advancing transportation policies and reforms in Lagos State, contributing to ongoing efforts to improve mobility and infrastructure in Nigeria’s commercial hub.

Eyes on National Assembly

Following his resignation, Giwa disclosed that he is setting his sights on a legislative role at the federal level. He revealed plans to contest for the Lagos Island Federal Constituency II seat in the House of Representatives.

“After deep reflection and wide consultations, I am answering a higher call to represent the good people of Lagos Island Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives,” he stated.

He added that his next political move would focus on “stronger representation, purposeful legislation, and delivering real impact” for his constituents.

Transition from State to Federal Politics

Giwa’s decision marks a transition from executive responsibilities within Lagos State to a legislative ambition on the national stage.

Political observers say the move reflects a broader trend of state-level appointees seeking federal positions ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

His resignation comes at a time when political activities are gradually intensifying, with potential candidates positioning themselves for key offices across the country.

Further details regarding his campaign timeline and party platform are yet to be officially announced.
